ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrive Kochi:
Arrive in Kochi. This ‘Queen of the Arabian Sea’ boasts one of the finest natural harbours in the world and is a highlight of any visit to the south of India. With its wealth of historical associations extending over hundreds of years, Kochi is the very spirit of eclectic Kerala and is your base for 2 nights. Your tour of Kerala state will start and end in this capital city, and you will begin your stay at centrally-located Malabar House (Standard Room).
Day 2 Kochi:
Unravel the ancient treasures of the quaint harbor town of Kochi, the commercial capital of Kerala. Visit the Jewish synagogue (closed on Fridays, Saturdays and Jewish public holidays), complete with Chinese tiles and ornate Belgian chandeliers, and the oldest living synagogue in the world. Also visit impressive Mattancherry Palace (closed on Fridays), built by the Portuguese for the King of Kochi in exchange for trading rights. You will explore St Francis Portuguese church, built in 1503 by Fransican friars, and once the site of Vasco de Gama’s grave. In this atmospheric town, you will of course have ample free time for a wander through the old town and its streets lined with spice stores. In the evening, witness ‘Kathakali’, a colourful special masked dance style native to Kerala, and a highlight of a visit to Kerala. The origins of Kathakali lie in ‘Theyyam’, a ritual tribal dance from north Kerala. (B)
Day 3 To Kanam:
This morning, drive to Kanam in the lush green countryside of Kerala and admire some of the beautiful scenery Kerala state is so famous for. Arrive at your resort for the next 2 nights, and check-in. Your accommodation is Serenity at Kanam (Deluxe Room). (B, L, D)
Day 4 Kanam:
Visit a spice plantation and acquaint yourself with the various kinds of fruits, herbs and flavorsome spices grown in this part of the world. Today, you get the opportunity to learn about the foundation of the Indian spice trade in the ancient world, and the importance of spices to Indian cooking. Discover the story of cardamom, native to this part of India.

Day 5 To Muhamma:
Drive to Muhamma this morning, alongside the serene backwaters of the region. Transfer to your hotel, offering panoramic views of Kumarakom, on the shores of peaceful Lake Vembanad (the centre of the Keralan waterways). Spend 3 nights at Privacy at Sanctuary Bay (Standard Room). (B, L, D)
Day 6 Muhamma:
Embark on a leisurely exploration of the Keralan backwaters in a private Kettuvalam (houseboat). Enjoy the peace and tranquility on this unforgettable journey through fascinating palm-fringed canals, lakes and villages, where the locals and the river enjoy an almost symbiotic existence. Enjoy a traditional lunch on board, and relax as the scenery and the rest of the world seems to float by. Return to your hotel in time for dinner. (B, L, D)
Day 7 Muhamma:
The day is at leisure in this tranquil world of sheer magic, set amidst swaying palms, green paddy fields and coconut canopies. (B, L, D)
Day 8 Depart Kochi:
Transfer from Muhamma to Kochi’s International Airport for your onward flight. (B)
